3 Spine Chilling Sporting Thrillers to round off 2022

The year 2022 was writ large and abuzz with sporting events aplenty from different nooks and corners of the world. I would like to particularly single out 3 remarkable days which are all Sunday showdowns apparently from 3 different fields from the sporting calendar that hold a special place in the heart. Incidentally 2 of these took place in the perennially loved sporting city of Melbourne in Australia with the third being a masterpiece from the Middle Eastern region of Doha in Qatar. Also 2 of these were Grand Finales and the other just a group stage encounter but totally worth it's weight in gold.

The sports in question happen to be cricket, tennis and football. Cricket is a sport that I have followed since perpetuity by constantly keeping a tab on the different series taking place in various parts of the world. Tennis as a sport has largely been about viewing the Grand Slams and a little bit of the big ticket Masters events. Also I've keenly followed the progress of three of the most influential tennis players not just of this generation but of all time viz Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. When it comes to Football, it's about largely being in sync with club events such as Premier League, Champions League etc. but more importantly about keeping track of major country events such as Euro, Copa America and especially the World Cup that takes place once every 4 years.

The year of 2022 produced some vintage rippers from these 3 historical sports. The uncanny but common theme prevailing across these three memorable matches is the fact that they all looked like being just another typical sporting match up with sudden twists and turn of events resulting in a multitude of ebbs & flows effectively culminating and eventually catapulting these matches into virtual all time classics and going down the annals as contests to recollect for a lifetime.

The architects engineering these rip snorters happen to be celebrated names from these 3 sports viz Rafael Nadal, Lionel Messi and Virat Kohli. Ironically they even happen to be born in back to back years of 1986, 1987 and 1988 respectively. Their exploits in the sporting battle under immense pressure also addresses the adage of "Class is Temporary, Form is Permanent" in a resounding manner. They were all under the hammer faced with extreme adversity and that is when they perfectly exhibited their caliber paving way for their fans to go into raptures and capping off a win to cherish for eternity.

Thus, an ode to three heart thumping chest pumping spine chilling tearjerkers that truly define the character of what could be termed as sporting blockbusters of 2022 includes the following:

1) Tennis - Australian Open Final - Rafael Nadal defeated Danii Medvedev - Sunday, 30th Jan 2022 - Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia

2) Cricket - ICC T20 World Cup Group Stage - India defeated Pakistan - Sunday, 23rd Oct 2022 - Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne, Australia

3) Football - FIFA World Cup Final - Argentina defeated France - Sunday, 18th Dec 2022 - Lusail Stadium, Doha, Qatar

1) Sport: Tennis, Event: Australian Open Final, Architect: Rafael Nadal

Even before the start of a ball being hit by a racquet, the whole tournament was mired in controversy with defending champion and 9 time winner Novak Djokovic barred from participating due to vaccine reasons. This paved the way for Rafael Nadal to up his game and reach the final yet again. For starters, this had been historically Rafa's worst performing Grand Slam and he had come a cropper many a time losing agonizing finals to his nemesis Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the past. In the final was looming large the lanky Russian Medvedev who had just beaten Novak Djokovic in the previous Grand Slam final contested which was the US Open of 2021 thus preventing Nole from winning all 4 Grand Slams in the same year and also establishing that the Big 3 remained tied at 20 each in the Grand Slam race. Medvedev was clearly the favorite for this contest and he got the ball rolling right from the beginning ambushing Nadal from the word go. Having taken a 2 set lead and with a break in the third, it all looked more or less a formality before the beast mode being activated all of a sudden by the rampaging bull from Spain. Nobody knew from where Rafa got the energy to fight but what happened in the next couple of hours was sheer herculean brilliance from Nadal as he staved up point after point taking the match to a decider and finally sealing it 7-5 in the fifth set. Rafa was overcome with emotion with the turnaround being absolutely astonishing. Rafa also eclipsed the Grand Slam count to become the first man to go to 21 Grand Slams in a bitter sweet title triumph putting all past demons to rest and exceedingly elevating his fighter ship qualities to a zenith level perhaps that could sparsely ever be comprehended. Rafa Nadal would no doubt go down as the greatest clay court player ever to have donned the game but this win in a surface not supposedly his favorite and the manner of victory virtually rising from the Ashes will go down seemingly as one of his sweetest and perfectly epitomizes the hallmark of a champion showcasing the art of what a fightback and comeback is all about.

2) Sport: Cricket, Event: Ind vs Pak T20 World Cup Group Stage, Architect: Virat Kohli

India vs Pakistan clashes always attracts the eye balls and this one was billed to be a biggie and turned out to be a bombastic blockbuster. The Melbourne Cricket Ground which is one of the oldest and biggest stadiums in the world was all ecstatic having packed an audience of over 90000 cheering on for their respective teams. The 'G' as you call it was witnessing an India vs Pakistan World Cup game after 30 years since the 1992 ODI World Cup and the excitement was palpable with it being a showdown one just couldn't resist. Coming to some background information, India had an enviable winning record against Pakistan in World Cup encounters having won 12 out of 13 previous contests before this one. It was actually 12 wins on the trot for India but however Pakistan had finally broken the deadlock by literally tearing apart this unsavory record by recording a win in emphatic fashion through a commanding 10 wicket romp of their opponents in the last World Cup of 2021. The World Cup hoodoo against India which was plaguing them for so long had been arrested and Pakistan seemed to be on top once again for large portions of this game. After scoring a respectable 159, they had India on the mat by ripping through India's top order and placing them in a precarious position of 31/4. Kohli and Hardik did try to salvage the ship through a steady partnership but the required run rate was just oozing beyond acceptable levels. India needed an almost improbable 48 to win off the last 3 overs when Virat Kohli suddenly activated God Mode. His dispatchment of back to back sixes off Rauf was some of the cleanest hitting ever witnessed. Ashwin finally hitting a straight boundary off the last delivery to signal an Indian victory had the crowd go into euphoria and dancing in delight. India had pulled off a victory of unparalleled proportions which looked way beyond the bridge at one point but one man Virat Kohli through his sheer will and magnificent batsmanship made it happen. With just this one knock, Virat had avenged all his detractors who had called for his axing by constructing a T20 knock for the ages in such a high pressure taxing environment. Though this was only a group stage game, this victory would rank as one of India's finest ever in the T20 format and one to savor for a long time to come.

3) Sport: Football, Event: Arg vs Fra FIFA World Cup Final, Architect: Lionel Messi

The FIFA World Cup of 2022 was the 22nd edition to have been staged with its existence going back almost a century back to 1930 when the initial World Cup was held in Uruguay. It was the first ever World Cup to be held in an Arab nation and just the second World Cup to be held in Asia. This was also the first World Cup ever to be conducted during the end of the year with almost all World Cups prior to this being staged around the middle of the year. The event courted a lot of controversy for some of the event handling but ended up being a World Cup to remember especially with so many smaller known unfancied teams toppling big giants of the game. The final was perhaps a testimony to signify that the best had been reserved for the last and boy oh boy what a game of epic proportions it eventually turned out to be. That however wasn't the case for more than 3/4th of the game with Argentina literally dominating the field of play and what looked like a resolutely comfortable victory for Albiceleste turned out to be an almost absolute nightmare at the end. The peaks and troughs foreseen right from when France were 0-2 down to equalizing at 2-2 before taking it to extra time only for Argentina's talisman Lionel Messi to get the lead back again at 3-2 only giving away immediately to a late penalty scored by Frenchman Mbappe completing a terrific hattrick to make it to 3-3 and then once again the drama of the penalty shoot out which Argentina finally managed to scamper through was all jaw dropping stuff of the highest order. Those last 45 minutes of the game was not just intense but also insane with fans shuffling for breath not knowing what was going to happen next. It was breathtaking to witness the sea of events which just kept going berserk all over the place. It felt like this game should really have not had a loser but in the end it was heartbreak for France and pure ecstasy for Argentina who had reclaimed the World title after 36 years making Buenos Aires go in to a frenzy. Argentina also managed to avenge their defeat to France who had knocked them out in the previous World Cup of 2018 in the pre quarterfinal stage. In the end Football was the winner and the entertainment that was got to witness was monumental to say the least. Lionel Messi capped of his career with the one silver lining that was missing in his kitty and the one that he so badly wanted viz the Jules Rimet World Cup trophy. This also enabled him to match the feat of his illustrious countryman Diego Maradona who last won the World Cup for their beloved country way back in 1986. The final held on 18th December 2022 was one of the last sporting events of the calendar year and it was a treat for everyone to witness this rip roaring sporting spectacle.

2022 was certainly a year for the sporting fraternity with plenty of highs and lows. There were many memorable moments and a plethora of records that had been smashed over the course of the year. The 3 matches picked to represent their respective sports not only act as testimony to the greatness produced but also stand as true torchbearers that will testify the leap of time.

Lionel Messi Drawing Parallels with Sachin Tendulkar

The FIFA World Cup 2022 played out in Doha, Qatar ended in sterling style with Argentina clinching the title after 36 years in what could arguably be described as a game for the ages. It would not only go down as one of the greatest finals ever contested but even as a solitary match would easily stake claim as perhaps the finest football World Cup match ever played. The Germany vs Italy semifinal of 1970 is largely considered as the greatest World cup match ever contested but this encounter between France and Argentina in 2022 probably pips that one and takes the cake.

The initial Football World Cup was played way back in 1930 and it's been in operation for almost a century of years being rich in history and tradition. The silver lining with regard to this match was that it had to come at the most pinnacle junction like a final which made the whole event all the more awe inspiring. One of the games greatest Lionel Andres Messi finally got his hands on the coveted Jules Rimet trophy, the one eluding him that he was waiting dearly for so long and it just ended up being so very extra special that it had to happen in his final World Cup appearance.

The game had it's ebbs and flows right from around the second portion of the second half. Until then for almost 75 minutes, Argentina had dominated the match in what initially appeared like a lackluster performance by France only to suddenly turn it around thanks to their talisman Kylian Mbappe who produced a blitzkrieg of a hat trick literally out of nowhere and nearly snatched it for France. It was a bit depressing for the defending champions France to eventually bow out on penalty kicks having come so close and virtually having one hand at the trophy.

However the final hurrah was reserved for one man Argentina's Lionel Messi. He came agonizingly close to capturing the trophy 8 years back in 2014 but which ended in heart breaking fashion as Germany made the decisive move to capture the crucial winning goal in the wee minutes of extra time. Messi being the player of the tournament was no solace as he so badly wanted the victors medal but alas it was not to be. The heart break continued again in 2018 as Argentina came undone against a quality young French side in the quarter finals who eventually would go on to claim the title. 2022 was Messi's last chance and a failure again would have deemed to be catastrophical. At the same time there was so much weight riding on Messi's shoulders to emulate the feat of Diego Maradona and anything other than a first placed finish was simply not good enough. Also to end up with no World Cup for not only the most seasoned player of his generation but also of all time would just be unacceptable. God however wrote the perfect script and Messi did eventually see his dream coming true with his beloved Argentinian side clinching victory in an unprecedented anti climax fashion to finally cement their side a World Cup medal after 1986 when Messi wasn't even born then.

The obvious comparison with Messi finally being a World Cup winner would be to line him up with his immortal country man Diego Maradona who performed a similar feat in 1986. It was as if the monkey was finally off Messi's back as he ultimately sealed glory alongside Maradona in being a World Champion himself. It would have even more amazing if Maradona was alive and witness to this. However there is no doubt that the great legend would have been blessing Albiceleste from the stars. Another of the comparison would have been with his illustrious peer Cristiano Ronaldo who along with Lionel Messi have been staving off comparisons over more than a decade now as to who is the greatest in the present generation. Messi has certainly leapfrogged Ronaldo with this success as CR7s only major triumph for his country Portugal came in the Euro 2016 when they upstaged France in the final. With this monumental triumph however, Messi also officially has staked his claim to be the GOAT alongside former winners Pele and Maradona. Incidentally, Pele, Maradona and Messi contributed with exactly a total of 10 Goals/Assists during their respective world cup winning conquests in 1970, 1986 and 2022 respectively.

Despite the heavy comparisons with former football players feats, the one which attracts an eerie level of coincidence happens to be with one of the torchbearers of Indian cricket namely Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Though Football and Cricket are sports as different as chalk & cheese, the situations in both Messi and Sachin's case appear so similar and it's remarkable that they just have so much in common with respect to their World Cup journeys.

Looking below at some of the engaging and interesting commonalities that have transpired in the lives of two of the greatest sportsmen from their respective fields of play:

1) Jersey Check - Both Sachin Tendulkar and Lionel Messi wore jerseys with the number 10 inscribed during their World Cup campaign.

2) Birth Date Check - Both are born on a #6 as per numerology and more specifically on the 24th of a calendar month. (Sachin 24th April 1973, Messi 24th June 1987)

3) Stature Check - Both are built around the same height measuring about 5'7 and considered to be the shortest players of their respective sides.

4) Heartbreak Check - Both encountered heart break losing the final of a World Cup 2 editions previous to their last and exactly 8 years prior. (Sachin in 2003 and Messi in 2014)

5) Player of the Tournament Check - Both were Player of the Tournament in their respective World Cup event despite not going on to win the trophy for their respective countries.

6) Appearance Check - Both of them have represented their countries in maximum World Cup campaigns in Cricket and Football respectively (Sachin with 6 and Messi with 5)

7) 2nd Highest Scorer Check - Both ended up being the 2nd highest run and goal scorer respectively during their victorious campaign with the highest coming from the losing side playing the final (Dilshan for Sri Lanka and Mbappe for France)

8) Defeat of Previous World Cup Winner Check - Both their sides India and Argentina defeated previous World Cup champions Australia (2007 Cricket World Cup Winner) and France (2018 Football World Cup Winner) on their way to victory. (India beat Australia in Quarter Finals and Argentina defeated France in the finals)

9) One Match Defeat Check - Both their teams lost only one match in the entire tournament which came during the group stages (India against South Africa and Argentina against Saudi Arabia)

10) Player of Match in Semifinals Check - Both were player of the match in their respective semi finals en-route to the final. (Sachin vs Pakistan and Messi vs Croatia)

11) Previous World Cup win in 80s check - Both their teams previous World Cup victory incidentally occurred in the 80s. (India in 1983 and Argentina in 1986)

12) World Cup Victory Multiple Check - Both Sachin and Messi finally realized their long standing dream of winning the coveted World Cup title in their last attempt and coincidentally it came in years involving multiples of 11. (Sachin in 2011 and Messi in 2022)

13) Post Retirement Check - This is rather more of a cheeky one. Both were largely expected to hang their boots after their final world cup hurrah especially since this was what they were expecting to fructify during their lifetimes with the sport they love. However that was not to be the case as Sachin continued to play for a couple more years after that and with respect to Messi's case, he has just hinted in a post match interview that he intends to continue a wee bit longer in the Argentina shirt.

Thus is a short similarities compendium of the World Cup winning journeys of 2 amazing sportsmen who carried the entire burden of their respective nations on their shoulders and finally achieved unprecedented iconic status by winning the biggest prize the sport has to offer.

Mudakku or Latta or Sthula - The Stumbling Block in a Horoscope

There are various methods in figuring out problem areas in a horoscope and one supposed technique happens to be 'Mudakku' which occurs exclusively from the position of the Sun in a natal chart. The actual coinage of this concept is actually 'Latta' or 'Sthula' which indicates a thorn or contraction but since the word 'Mudangu' in Tamil gives a more apt meaning to the terminology of blockage or restrain or hindrance, it popularly came to be termed as 'Mudakku'. In Tamil dialect 'Mudakku' is said to indicate "Ool Vinai Karma" which mentions about one's inherited fate. In layman's terms, it is said to imply that whatever house or bhava comes as 'Mudakku' in one's horoscope, that indicates a susceptibility and needs to be remedied and worked upon. It is like saying that if a machine stops working, we would have to repair it and that's how it has to be linked within the parlance of a horoscope.

Mudakku is calculated based on the following procedure. We first need to ascertain the Nakshatra in which Sun is placed in the horoscope. From that Nakshatra we need to count until Moola Nakshatra. The count arrived at should then again be counted from Poorva Ashada (Pooradam) Nakshatra and the resultant Nakshatra happens to be the Mudakku Nakshatra with the house owner said to be causing the Mudakku Dosha. The reason for the counting taking place till Moola is because that's the space which is said to possess the location of the Kundalini viz the Mooladhara. There are certain resultant Nakshatras that fall in two rasis and in such a case we always need to evaluate based on where the initial pada of the Nakshatra falls and that would end up being the Mudakku Bhava.

As an illustration let's say someone has their Sun placed in Chitra Nakshatra. We need to count from Chitra till Moola both inclusive which happens to be 6 in number. Now 6 Nakshatras have to be counted from Poorva Ashada (Pooradam) and that will result in Poorva Bhadrapada (Pooratathi) Nakshatra. Hence the Mudakku Nakshatra happens to be Poorva Bhadrapada and the house causing the Mudakku Dosh will be Kumbha or Aquarius since we have to see where the Nakshatra of Poorva Bhadrapada starts which will always be Kumbha.

Listed below are the Mudakku Nakshatra, Mudakku Rasi and Mudakku Lord for all the Nakshatras when Sun is placed from Ashwini to Revathi

As spoken about earlier, the house which comes as 'Mudakku' causes a bottleneck or an obstacle which weighs down heavily relating to the significations of that house. Listed below are some effects based upon the house owner of the Mudakku:

Mars - Difficulty in initiating things. Problem with property related matters.
Venus - Issues in relationships and dealing with people.
Mercury - Documentation problems and troubles arising out of communication. Issues with education.
Moon - Causes mental instability and discomfort. Body and mind not in sync.
Sun - Lack of authority and respect. Governmental matters causes problems.
Jupiter - No support from elders and lack of guidance. Problems in dealing with children.
Saturn - General delay in happening of things. Profession related problems.

Sharing below brief issues depending on the house in which Mudakku occurs:
1st House - Individual finds it hard to get going or go forward with any venture, faces issues with anything that native initiates. These natives find it hard to exhibit their talents and hence makes it difficult for themselves to grow. They tend to get caught in a shell and natives with such a placement are said to be adamant not listening to anyone and taking own decisions only to suffer the consequences

2nd House - Family and money matters tend to backfire. For such a native nobody tends to listen and take them seriously. These people should ideally not give or take any loans as they find it hard to get back or repay funds on time. It is also said that such a native should be careful in driving vehicles as accidents can occur.

3rd House - With such a placement, good deeds seldom takes place. It is not good for any document related work and such natives face issues of cheque bouncing / returning. Also if such a native provides information to anyone, there are chances of landing in problems. Their communication seldom gets misinterpreted and they find it hard to come to the limelight. They also tend to face issues from their younger siblings.

4th House - Mother related significations can take a beating. Additionally mental peace can be disturbed and there can be instability in home environment. They always face property issues. During the process of buying or construction or after that also some or other problem in house environment tends to affect them by default.

5th House - This is said to induce plenty of troubles and is a placement said to cause Putra Dosh. They also face issues with ancestral wealth and fall short of getting blessings of their Kula Deva with regard to any deed. Love matters can also take a hit. These natives never hear any good things and are usually critical of other people.

6th House - These natives are generally under confident having fear and self doubt. They also tend to give benefit to others whether right or wrong. They usually lack the competitive edge. Any service they perform they find it to hard to come out victorious. In day to day jobs, they largely face problems with regard to type of job, sub ordinates etc mostly indicating lack of job satisfaction.

7th House - This placement usually sparks issues with regard to married life and relationships. They are advised to not get into partnership business of any sorts. These natives never get company of the rightful friends and most of their affairs in dealing with people end up being distasteful.

8th House - These natives are always on the search and keep seeking things throughout. They are never self satisfied and keep on looking for newer avenues and tend to trouble themselves a lot by overdoing stuff. They undergo sudden upheavals time and again and embarrassing situations can come upon many a time. As 8th also indicates 'Mangalya Sthana', some or other issue can crop up at time of performing marriage or after that also.

9th House - Auspicious happenings take a beating. It is not good for father related significations as well and these natives are unlucky when it comes to accumulating ancestral blessings. They face issues even in wanting to visit their 'Ishta Devata'. Even when they go abroad from their homeland these natives tend to encounter problems. Maladies are also said to culminate especially with respect to uterus.

10th House - As this is the house of Karma, plenty of karma significations tend to get affected. One will be prohibited from performing his karma. Issues in married life along with more than one marriage is said to be possible along with not having fine relations with children. This house also indicates all to do with respect, honour and achievements and these natives always tend to stumble when it comes to attaining professional growth in career.

11th House -  These natives are said to be highly desirous and always after possessions. They tend to be extremely materialistic and really keen on accumulating money more so others than their own. Gains of any kind are however hard to come by even if they so desire. Their minds tend to oscillate a lot and they never have any mental satisfaction or come to a decision quickly with respect to anything. Issues with elder siblings also keeps persisting.

12th House - These natives usually lack consciousness and are very slow in action taking their own time. They are usually said to incur heavy pains either on the head area or on the legs. Sleep problems are a constant and they are perennially disturbed. These people also find it hard to possess immovable properties. They also end up in losses and incur expenditure in various ways.

This in general is about the concept of Mudakku. It is extremely important to note the house in which the Mudakku is formed in the horoscope along with also knowing the house owner as some inherent significations of the house lord gets affected. The planets sitting in Mudakku Bhava also cause an impact. It is also believed that when the Karma planet Saturn in transit crosses the Mudakku house and especially the Mudakku Nakshatra and it's trine, it is said to induce intense karma dosh. For eg. if the Mudakku Nakshatra happens to be Revathi in Pisces, whenever Saturn crosses Revathi and its trine Nakshatras viz Ashlesha and Jyeshta in Cancer and Scorpio respectively it can cause severe troubles. There is also a way of keeping the Mudakku Bhava as Lagna and seeing where Sun is placed from it along with also seeing its movement from the main Lagna. For instance if Sun is placed 7th from Mudakku and 4th from Lagna, we can interpret by saying that marriage problems can get brewed largely due to lack of sukha or comforts. Poorva Phalguni and Uttara Phalguni are the Nakshatras forming and ending the process of Mudakku with both belonging in the rasi of Simha owned by the Sun which is the planet that ends up causing this whole Mudakku Dosh. Aadi Pooram (Poorva Phalguni) and Panguni Uthiram (Uttara Phalguni) are in fact important festivals celebrated in a religious way down South. This in essence is all about the stumbling block originating methodology of Latha or Sthula more popularly now known as 'Mudakku'.

Information and Results pertaining to different Tithis of Panchanga

Tithi - A Limb of Panchanga
A Tithi happens to be one of the core elements of the five limbed Panchanga. A Tithi occurs based on the angular distance that is created between the Sun & Moon as they revolve around the zodiac belt of 360°. Every 12 degrees of movement by the Moon away from the Sun gives rise to a Tithi and hence there are 30 Tithis (360°/12) in total with 15 being part of the brighter half or what is known as Shukla Paksha and the latter 15 being part of the darker half or Krishna Paksha. For counting purposes we normally consider it like there are 15 Tithis in total much like there are 7 Varas, 27 Nakshatras, 27 Yogas and 11 Karanas.

Tithi and Prosperity
It is said that Knowledge of Tithi brings prosperity. There is also the popular saying stating 'Tithiyai Pidicha Vidhiyai Vellalam' which translates as one who catches hold of their Tithi can even conquer their destiny. Hence Tithi has a very important hold with regard to a Horoscope and is much more than just being used for Muhurtha purposes or celebrating the auspicious events of deities such as Krishna Ashtami or Rama Navami etc.

Tithi and Destiny
It is also believed that Tithi is inherently connected to one's past life and the Tithi one is born with is correlated with the paava punyam or merits / sins from previous birth and accordingly the Tithi is the one that determines the destiny for an individual in this lifetime. Each of the Tithis barring the 15th Tithi of Pournima/Ammavasya are impacted by 2 or more Rasis being cursed leaning to the concept of Tithi Shoonya or Daghda Rasi which indicates certain dark spots in a particular area for an individual horoscope. However there is a saying that only one out of two rasis gets the tag of shoonya rasi (except Chaturdashi Tithi where 2 out of 4 get impacted) based on whether birth takes place in brighter half or darker half. The general understanding is that the first rasi becomes shoonya as per Kala Purusha order for a Shukla Paksha birth and the second rasi becomes shoonya as per Kala Purusha order for a Krishna Paksha birth. This holds good in most cases except for Tithis 3,4 and 7. Apart from Tithi Shoonya Rasis, there are also cases of Lagnas (Ascendant), Nakshatras (Asterism) and Masa (Lunar month) which become Shoonya when arising with certain Tithis which are dispensed below. These concepts are largely used for purpose of fixing Muhurthas.

Tithi Deities
Each of the Tithis also happen to be ruled by a particular deity apart from a Devi assigned to each of them yearning towards prosperity. It is believed that offering prayers to the Nitya Devi linked to the Tithi in which one attains birth helps in granting wealth and prosperity. There is also a type of Ganapathi or Lord Ganesh associated with each of the Tithis and worship of the said type of Ganapathi helps in removing obstacles.

Tithi and the Venus Connection
Tithi mainly connotes the Tamil words 'Selvam' and 'Magizhchi' which is all about happiness, pleasures, delights, earning wealth and desiring prosperity. Since all these undertakings generally come within the ambit of Venusian qualities, a Tithi broadly is said to be under the control of the planet Venus and ruled by the water element.

Tithi - Benefic and Malefic
In general parlance as per Sage Parashara, Moon is classified as Natural Benefic or Natural Malefic based on whether it is under waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) or waning phase (Krishna Paksha) respectively. There are some authorities however stating that Moon is beneficial after it crosses a specific Tithi in the second half of the brighter phase and continues to be favorable till around the mid of the darker phase where it again becomes malefic as it reaches towards Ammavasya and even beyond that into the first half of the brighter phase as Moon is still in rather close conjunction with the Sun. However when it comes to auspiciousness of Tithi, it is categorized into Auspicious, Mixed and Inauspicious based on its proximity with the Sun.

Tithi Groupings
Tithis are also categorised into 5 kind of groupings viz Nanda, Bhadra, Jaya, Rikta and Poorna as per the text 'Kalaprakasika'. The groupings resonate with a particular planet based on the meaning of the terms. This however should not be construed as if the Tithi is lorded by the particular planet but more in line with a group of Tithis relating to the characteristic of a particular planet.

Nanda - 1st, 6th and 11th Tithi. Ruler Venus. Denotes joyousness and happiness
Bhadra - 2nd, 7th and 12th Tithi. Ruler Mercury. Denotes fortune and health
Jaya - 3rd, 8th and 13th Tithi. Ruler Mars. Denotes victory and triumph
Rikta - 4th, 9th and 14th Tithi. Ruler Saturn. Denotes loss and emptiness
Poorna - 5th, 10th and 15th. Ruler Jupiter. Denotes fulfillment and completeness

The Rikta Tithis in general are said to be inauspicious for any important work to be carried out and is best said to be avoided whereas the Poorna Tithis are apt for performing any religious ceremonies. Nanda Tithis invoke sense of pleasure, Bhadra is said to be friendly and Jaya competitive. Hence Tithis for an activity can be used accordingly based on the grouping. It is also said that if a Tithi and it's grouping ruler lord happens to coincide on the particular weekday or Vara, it is said to be auspicious for instance Nanda Tithi & Friday, Bhadra Tithi & Wednesday, Jaya Tithi & Tuesday, Rikta Tithi & Saturday and Poorna Tithi & Thursday.

Tithi Specifics
Kalaprakasika also categorises Tithis based on its orientation with Sunrise as seen below:

Tithi Kshaya - If a Tithi originates after the occurence of Sunrise and finishes before the start of the sunrise in the next day, it is known as Tithi Kshaya. This means that on two consecutive days of sunrise, the Tithi isn't present and denotes a decrease. Such a Tithi is said to be inauspicious and is better if one avoids performing any tasks during such a period of time.

Tithi Adhi or Tithi Vridhi - If a Tithi originates before the occurence of Sunrise and finishes only after the start of the sunrise in the next day, it is known as Tithi Vridhi. Here the Tithi is present on two consecutive days of sunrise and said to connote an increase. This is also not suitable and it is said to avoid any favorable tasks during this period of time.

Tithi Gandanta - The one last Gatika of a Poorna Tithi and the first one Gatika of a Nanda Tithi is said to denote Tithi Gandanta. It is generally better to avoid any activity during this period.

Tithi Lordship
There aren't many texts that talk about the Lordship of each of the Tithis. There is a view of following Tithi Lordship based on the weekday order such as assigning the first Tithi to Sun, second Tithi to Moon and so on till the 7th Tithi to Saturn and then 8th to Rahu and then back again with Sun ruling the 9th Tithi and then the 15th Tithi of bright half provided to Saturn and 15th of darker half given to Rahu. This methodology however does not have any sage backing.

The only Ancient text which makes a reference to Lordship of Tithis happens to be the Kerala treatise on Horary Astrology titled 'Krishneeyam' by Shree Krishna Acharya. This book has clearly delineated the rulership planet for each of the Tithis which are dispensed below. There is no exact methodology of how exactly the Tithi Lord needs to be used in a horoscope but since Tithi in essence is all about significations such as Pleasures, Desires, Relationships, Passion, Happiness, Wealth etc it makes sense to see where the Tithi Lord is placed and the house(s) it owns to approximately come to a judgement on the interest towards these matters. It will also be preferable if the Tithi Lord itself doesn't end up getting placed in a Tithi Shoonya Rasi.

Ammavasya Tithi in general is considered auspicious for worship of forefathers and ancestors. The Ammavasya on Ashwin month is known as Mahalaya Ammavasya and is especially sacred for offering oblations to ancestors. This period pertaining to the dark fortnight in the lunar month of Ashwina from Krishna Paksha Pratama till Ammavasya is termed as Pitru Paksha where offerings are made to departed souls with the Mahalaya Ammavasya being the most important day for performing obsequies and rites. In the South, Thai Ammavasya occurring in the solar month of Thai or Makara and Aadi Ammavasya taking place in the solar month of Aadi or Katagam is specially considered for oblation and signifies the first Ammavasya after Uttarayana (Northern course of Sun) and Dakshinayana (Southern course of Sun) respectively. If Ammavasya coincides on a Monday it has a special significance and fasting on this day is said to ensure desires being fulfilled. The day after Naraka Chaturdashi in the lunar month of Ashwija is when Diwali celebrations actually culminates. It is also the day when Lakshmi Pooja takes place with worship for Lakshmi, the Goddess for Wealth and Ganesh, the God for auspicious beginnings.

- Tithi General Results -
: These natives are very patient by nature and possess a lot of respect towards their parents. They are very intelligent and talented in performing any activity. Ensure to speak the truth always.
: They undergo a lot of oscillation in life with regular ups and downs.
: As per Kalapurusha, no house gets affected by Tithi Shoonya. However they need to be careful with respect to certain matters due to the proximity of the Moon being directly opposite (Poornima) and too close to the Sun (Ammavasya) respectively.

Note: Hindu festivals are largely decoded based on the Tithi in operation. The Christian festivals are more aligned to a specific day or date such as Christman always arising on December 25th, New Year's on Jan 1st etc. Muslim festivals on the other hand are largely based on Moon sighting and not observance of a particular Tithi as most Hindu festivals but they more or less have a correlation as Moon's phases originate as part of Tithi. It would be quite interesting to note that Ramadan always commences around Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi based on the viewing of crescent moon and Eid on Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi in the following lunar month. Muslims are known to fast and offer obeisance to God for Ramadan during the entire month and Eid marks the end of the Islamic holy month fasting of Ramadan. Another of their festival, Bakrid happens around Shukla Paksha Dashami in the lunar month of Ashada.

Information and Results pertaining to different Karanas of Panchanga

A Karana is considered to be half of a Tithi and there are 11 Karanas in totality. A Tithi gets formed every time the Moon moves 12 degrees away from the Sun and half of a Tithi is a Karana which is 6 degrees. Hence there are 60 Karanas in total (360°/6) which are however further categorized into 11 as 7 of the karanas are movable and repeat 8 times in a cycle making up 56 and there are remaining 4 fixed karanas all together making up the sum total of 60.

It is said that Knowledge of Karanas leads to success. There is also a popular saying stating 'Karanam Thappinal Maranam' meaning Karanam is so powerful that it can even save you from the clutches of death. It is also said to be the 'Karya Siddhi' that translates as 'granting of success'. A Karana can indicate means of work getting accomplished and providing a direction towards life by putting in the required efforts. C Salt - Coastal Cuisine by the sea shore!

C Salt is a fine dining restaurant predominantly serving South Indian cuisine and located as part of the sprawling Sheraton Grand resort. You could see patches of greenery all around with the main entrance being constructed under a thatched roof like setting. It gives a laidback atmosphere and the blowing of the breeze from the beach side from just across the corner gives it the much needed tranquil environment. Sunday drives in Chennai to the serene beaches and hogging along some glorious cuisine is surely a great getaway to spend the weekend and C Salt amply caters to that requirement.

The menu is well rounded bringing the curated best of South India from 4 coastal regions covering the belts of Malabar, Konkan, Coromandel and Andhra. These areas are known to dish out supreme stuff making primary use of coconut and the aroma can be inherently felt as you step in. It is largely a limited menu comprising of an interesting array of small plates, a few combo based meals and a few mains to go along with side dishes.

Even before we could set the ball rolling, we were served some crunchy tapioca chips to go along with delightful cilantro and lemon dips. We started our foray with the button cakes which were fluffed up pieces of idly generously topped with abundant pieces of podi masala topped with layers of chilies and curry leaves for that enhanced zing. It was absolutely delicious and dwells up as a superlative cocktail based appetizer. Next up from the starter section we had a droolworthy malai brocolli. These florets were drenched along with the rightful dose of cream to get the ammunition soaring and came along with pink onions and a dollop of soya sauce. The pieces were just about perfect both in texture and taste.

In the main course section, we chose to have a combo meal in the form of a rich creamy gravy comprising of cashew nuts, asparagus and potatoes simmered in a coconut cream avatar coming along with couple of chunks of Aki Roti. It had a wonderful effervescence with the dreamy gravy being suffused with a beautiful blend of coconut cream and going along perfectly well with the rice breads made famous in Karnataka. One minor blip in the gravy was the fact that mix of the ingredients making up the curry seemed a bit one sided. An abundance of cashews made up almost a whole of the mix relegating the potatoes and asparagus to play a distinct second fiddle. Just felt the combination of the three could have been a little more judicious thus avoiding the over powering of cashew nuts in the overall scheme of things. Apart from this we also tried a paratha infused with cheese to go along with a tangy egg gravy mingled with spices aplenty to get a signature taste. The parathas were nice though not dolled up with that much of cheese and also being a little too hard on the surface. The egg curry hit all the right spots on every angle with all the add-ons elevating its taste to another level. Only gripe that was felt was on the quantity which seemed a little less from the bowl being served. We skipped having desserts as there wasn't really more space to take in any further intake.
Overall it was a relaxing meal soaked on a smooth Sunday afternoon setting with the sound of waves providing for some great company to go along with the food that was largely wholesome on substance and flavours. The service was apt and we were helped with some wonderful choices to go with. Time taken for the food seemed a bit on the longer duration but it didn't matter much as we were anyway here to just kill time and enjoy the calmness of this sea side resort. Rates seem fair for the course and definitely in line with what is served at a 5 star property. On the whole, if you're looking for a well deserved yearning weekend afternoon in Chennai wanting some unbridled peace and food to relish, you don't need to look much beyond C Salt which is certain to ensure meeting expectations with aplomb.
